The Hamburg Reeperbahn is experiencing a social, societal and economic change. The "great mile" is no longer what it used to be. There are no more shops, sailors, glamor and easy money, the infamous clubs and bars disappear silently. Once an entertainment establishment for everyone and a stage for bon vivants, the Hamburg “Kiez” has now become a tourist Eldorado and a hip residential area that the long-time residents have not been able to afford for a long time. In her award-winning report, the young photographer Antonia Zennaro portrays what is left of the golden years of the “Kiez”: Barbara, who as a prostitute in the sixties could still choose her suitors and ask them what she wanted, is old today , poor and lonely in her apartment on Hamburger Berg; Marietta, the boss of the Hotel Hongkong, the last relic of the former China-Town, gives the long-established residents a place to stay, family and belonging; the “Safari Club”, the last sex cabaret on the Große Freiheit, still advertises its costumes and live shows.
